Security

Security you can actually verify

Nook is built local-first and minimal by default. Here's exactly how we keep your browsing yours.

Local-first storage

Sessions, groups, and wallpapers are saved in your browser's own storage. They aren't uploaded by default.

Encrypted sync

When you opt in, synced data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Only your account can restore it.

Minimal permissions

Built on Manifest V3 with the smallest permission set needed. No content scripts on every page.

How tab grouping handles your data

When you organize tabs, only the titles and URLs of currently open tabs are processed to cluster them by topic. The result is returned to your browser and the input is discarded. We don't store it, log it, or use it to profile you.

What permissions we request, and why

Nook requests the narrow set of Chrome permissions required to read your open tabs (for grouping), manage the new tab page, and store your sessions locally. We do not request broad host access to read the content of websites you visit.

Your wallpaper never leaves your device

Custom backgrounds are stored locally in your browser. They are not uploaded to our servers, even when cloud sync is enabled for sessions and preferences.

Deleting your data

You're always one click from a clean slate. Deleting your data wipes both local and synced copies immediately, with no waiting period and nothing held in reserve. Read the full details in our Privacy Policy.

Reporting a vulnerability
